A spiritual home may be a "call"....

I have written about spiritual homes before...places to which God calls certain people, especially to do missionary work.

One thinks of the old movie, The Inn of  the Sixth Happiness, based on the true story of  Gladys Aylward, from a book called The Small Woman, by Alan Burgess. Gladys was one of these people to whom God gave an overwhelming and mysterious love for a country very different from her birth country, England.

She was called to go to China, which she expressed by a great love in her heart for the Chinese people and culture. She personally saved 100 children from war-torn areas.

If you are a homeschooling family, this film is a good one, although it does take some liberties with the original story. Our children needs heroes and Glady Aylward is a hero.

Recommended Book

I read The Price to Pay: A Muslim Risks All to Follow Christ by Joseph Fadelle today, a fast read.

It is really excellent, sad, poignant, etc.

I highly recommend this Ignatius Press book.

Rich Ireland

I found out today how rich Ireland really is. I can tell by the clothes people wear, the up-market shopping and the prices of food, which is horribly expensive. Everything is more expensive than Malta and Great Britain.

The Irish are some of the richest people in Europe. But, the middle class is shrinking.

A friend of mine told me today that the banking system here is one of the most corrupt in the world.

I am thinking about all of this.

A priest, who is Irish and from a really good family, told me the Irish are getting nasty. He sees it.

Sad days, and the result of the loss of Faith....

I had lunch with a friend on the North Side of Dublin. The contrast with the South Side is amazing.

The north is old, poor, very "Irish".

The south is rich, new, metropolitan, multicultural.

Interesting.

Sad, I have been here...
